From the Cockpit:

Matt Kenseth: “Michigan has started to widen out a little bit since they paved it, but momentum is always key there.  You need to be able to roll through the corners as fast as you can, just like every other track, but at Michigan, it’s a bigger corner and momentum is just so important there.  You’ve got to have the corner tied together well in order to get down the next straightaway.  The groove at Michigan has been kind of narrow since they paved it, but it is starting to widen out a little, and the focus there is to try and get your car to run well in a spot on the track that everyone else isn’t necessarily running.  The banking is a little different down low than it is in the middle lane, and typically, people choose to run the middle.  If you can get the bottom working, it can help you to make some passes during the race.”

From the Pit Box:

Jason Ratcliff: “Looking ahead to this weekend, I think it’s going to continue to be the same Michigan that we’ve seen over the last few years.  Michigan is all about aerodynamics.  Fontana is a little similar to Michigan, but that’s an older track surface and you have three or four different lanes that you can run, so with this aero package, Michigan will kind of be the first race of it’s kind for the year at a track that I feel is 99.9 percent aero focused.  The challenge of Michigan is getting your car to be able to run well by itself, but then also figuring out what you need to move around in traffic.  You become so dependent on the aero, that when you get in traffic and around other cars, there is such a huge balance change.  I think that with the stage racing, teams will be able to play some strategy this weekend as well.  Usually two tires there is an option at Michigan, so I think that we’ll see some people mixing it up a little bit on stops.”
