From the Cockpit:

Matt Kenseth: “With only two road courses on the schedule, everyone likes to group them together, but they’re very different from each other.  I really have to approach them both separately as I look ahead to that portion of the schedule.  Sonoma as a whole is just a challenge for me.  It’s challenging to go fast for a lap at Sonoma, but it’s even more challenging to go fast for a tire run and then have to figure out how much to save, and what your balance needs to be like to start a run compared to where it’s going to be at the end of the run.  There’s just a lot that you are constantly having to focus on at Sonoma throughout that entire race.  I think that everyone enjoys going to Sonoma because it’s northern California and wine country with so many things to see and do.”

From the Pit Box:

Jason Ratcliff: “I feel like every year that we go to Sonoma, we learn something new.  Last year, I felt that our road course cars were much improved overall as an organization at Sonoma and Watkins Glen.  We’ll look to what we can build on from where we were at last year, and we’ll try to apply that going into this weekend.  I feel like we usually qualify well there, but the cautions typically get us during the race.  I think that with the stages this year, those breaks are going to affect the road courses and the strategies teams use more than anywhere else.  In the past you would use your fuel windows and lay out your strategy based on that, but now knowing when we’ll have some cautions, that will really change things up.  I think that you’ll see multiple strategies but it’ll be much different than we’ve seen in years past.”
