Ryan Blaney heads to Talladega Superspeedway in need of a strong finish to reach Round of 8.
Ryan Blaney finished eighth at Charlotte and sits 11th in the Round of 12 standings, just five points behind Jamie McMurray in eighth.
The point difference is small but anything can happen at Talladega Superspeedway.
In six races at Talladega, Blaney has one top-five, two top-ten finishes and has led 18 laps. With an average finish of 21.3 in his career at Talladega, Blaney will need to improve his average finish if he hopes to stay alive in the NASCAR playoffs.
Before the Round of 12 kicked off, Blaney said he was looking forward to the slate of races in the round.
“I think the next tracks will suit us a little bit better because of the mile-and-a-halves, and Talladega we always run decent at. I’m looking forward to it,” Blaney said to Motorsports.com.
“Hopefully, we can have some good runs and start off on the right foot; hopefully be in a decent spot for Talladega where we don’t have to hit a home run or anything like that. If that happens, we’ll just roll with what we have to do.”
Blaney doesn’t necessarily have to hit a home run at Talladega, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt.
