Denny Hamlin and Jamie McMurray each earned a top-5 at Charlotte, while Brad Keselowski finished 15th. This weekend they’re headed to Talladega as Keselowski looks to rebound after Charlotte.
Keselowski and the No. 2 team lacked speed throughout the race on Sunday and was never really a factor at the end. A disappointing 15th-place finish drops him to 10th in the playoffs standings heading to Talladega.
Prediction – Not even close this week with my Keselowski prediction…15th is not the new top-five.
Hamlin started on the pole for Sunday’s race and while he led 45 laps, he didn’t have quite enough speed for Martin Truex Jr., Chase Elliott or Kevin Harvick. However, fourth-place was a solid run for the No. 11 team and Hamlin remains in the top-five in the playoff standings.
Prediction – My top-five for Hamlin was “spot on” this week at Charlotte. Maybe I can make it two in a row with Hamlin at Talladega.
McMurray continued to surprise again this week after a top-five finish at Charlotte. With the great finish, McMurray jumps from 12th in the playoff standing to 8th..
Prediction – Clearly I had Keselowski and McMurray backwards, with McMurray outperforming my top-15 prediction…not a top-15.
