Brad Keselowski and Jamie McMurray each earned a top-10 at Dover, while Denny Hamlin and Kurt Busch struggled. Keselowski, Hamlin and McMurray moved on to Round 2 of the NASCAR Playoffs, but unfortunately Kurt Busch was eliminated.
Keselowski was in great position heading (4th in the standings) to move on to Round 2 of the playoffs heading to Dover. A 10th-place finish easily earned him a spot in Round 2 of the playoffs that start at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend.
Prediction – I called another top-10 and Keselowski delivered.
Hamlin had virtually secured a spot in the second round of the playoffs, but a broke rear axle late in the race at Dover made things interesting for the No. 11 team. A disappointing 35th-place finish drops Hamlin to seventh in the standing heading into Round 2.
Prediction – My top-20 projected finish was looking good until the broken axle with approximately 25 laps to go doomed Hamlin.
Busch’s season started promising with a win in the Daytona 500, but the team was unable to maintain enough consistency…or avoid bad luck to really challenge for the championship. He was eliminated from the playoffs after a 20th-place finish at Dover.
Prediction – I thought he would finish the race with top-15, but instead a 20th-place sealed his fate of elimination from the playoffs.
McMurray was near the elimination bubble heading to Dover, but another top-10 for the No. 1 team was enough to hold their position and move to Round 2.
Prediction – McMurray made me look good again this week with a 9th-place finish (had predicted top-10) and advancing to Round 2.
