The NASCAR playoffs head to the final race of the 2017 season at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Each week, Motor Racing Digest writers will follow their remaining drivers in their playoff pursuit of a NASCAR championship. Here is a weekend preview for my championship contender, Brad Keselowski.
Keselowski will make his 10th MENCS career start at Homestead-Miami Speedway with exception of winning his second championship.
In his nine previous starts, he has two top-five and three top-10 finishes with an average finish of 15.9. Prior to his 35th-place finish in last year’s finale after a crash, Keselowski had three consecutive top-10 finishes.
Keselowski doesn’t feel any added pressure going into the season finale and approaches the race just like any other playoff race.
“It doesn’t feel much different to me than any of the other playoff races,” said Keselowski. “This is just another elimination race. It’s just the one that pays the most.”
Keselowski will start Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 from the fifth position on the grid while his three competitors will start 2nd (Truex Jr.), 3rd (Kyle Busch) and 9th (Kevin Harvick).
Prediction: Keselowski will come up short in his quest for a second title, but does finish the race with a top-10.
