Trevor Bayne will miss Friday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Texas Motor Speedway due to lack of sponsorship. Bayne recorded his first series victory last fall at Texas Motor Speedway, but will miss the opportunity to repeat as the race winner.
Bayne currently sits in fourth in the Nationwide Series point standings with three top-10 finishes in five races this season.
He was not listed on the original Entry list for this week’s race, but today Roush Fenway Racing officials confirmed he is not running the event.
With missing the race, Bayne could likely see his quest for a championship series title go up in flames. As of this afternoon, there has been no comments from Bayne or any additional information provided by RFR.
Bayne will be at Texas Motor Speedway to participate in the Samsung 500 on Saturday night, driving the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing Ford.
Kenny Wallace, a nine-time Nationwide Series winner, also lost his ride this week due to a lack of sponsorship.
Unlike Bayne, Wallace’s RAB Racing team will be racing in Texas – except driver Ryan Truex will be behind the wheel since he was able to bring a sponsor along with him.
“I love my team RAB Racing, but I must step aside this week so another driver who has a sponsor can help our team continue,” Wallace tweeted Monday.
For both drivers, the disappointment is one that many drivers may face as the season moves forward.
